Stealing some leisure I've come to stay the night at Yase ford.
As I lie on my pillow the rushing river washes clean my dreams.
Off in the sky above Mount Hiei, the single orb the moon.
Its pure beams shining to light the stalwart traveler's way.
Line one: Yase 八瀬 is an area in northeastern Kyoto which was a favorite spot with travelers.
The ford in question was on the Takano river, flowing near the foot of the
western slopes of Mt. Hiei. Atop Mt. Hiei stands Enryakuji, the center of
the Tendai Buddhist sect.In the context of this mountain, the moon often
functions as a symbol of religious knowledge, truth, and enlightenment.

略伝
* 龍草廬（正徳４年～寛政４年） 漢学者。名は公美、字君玉中途で名は元亮宇は子明と称したが後再び旧に復した。草廬または竹隠、松菊主人、呉竹翁、明々窓、綠蘿洞等の号がある。通称彦次郎後衛門と云った。伏見の桂大納言経信の後裔という。正徳四年に生れた。長ずるに及んで京師に出で宇野明霞の門に入ったが後明霞と隙を生じ以後師資の礼を取らず「学は常師なし」と称したという。元文年中帷を烏丸小路に下して門生の指導に当った。兵学、国学にも精しく、書を巧みにして平安中比する者がなしと云われた。寛延三年から安永四年迄彦根藩儒となり優遇をうけたが在任十八年の後京に帰り詩歌を以て業としその学舎を幽蘭社と称した。寛政四年二月二日歿、年七十九、唐詩材、日本詩冊、論語詮、毛詩證、金蘭詩集、草廬詩集、同文集、同尺牘集等多数の著書がある。（天明ニ
